Who we are

This website, devjobsnepal.com, is run by Development Jobs in Nepal (“DevJobsNepal”, “we”, “us”). It lists development sector vacancies in Nepal. We decide how the personal data described on this page is used.

The short version

  • You can read every vacancy without an account.
  • We run no advertising and no analytics, and we do not use tracking cookies.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with employers.
  • We do not receive your job applications. You apply on the employer’s own website or by email, and what you send them is covered by their privacy policy, not ours.
  • Your CV and personal history form on this site are private to you.

What we collect and why

When you visit

Like any website, the services that deliver this one (Cloudflare and our web hosting provider) process your IP address and basic browser details so that pages reach you, and so the site can be protected from attacks and abuse.

Your account

You sign in with Google or LinkedIn. There is no password to create. When you sign in, the provider sends us your email address, your name and an account identifier. We keep your email address and that identifier so we can recognise you next time. We never see your Google or LinkedIn password, and we cannot post anything as you. We do not store or show your Google or LinkedIn profile picture: the site shows your initials instead.

If you are looking for work, your account is given a generated public name, such as “Quiet Marsyangdi”, and that is the name other people see. Your real name is not shown anywhere on the site, and we do not keep the name your provider sent us unless you choose to add it to your profile yourself. You can change your public name at any time.

Employer accounts, and the accounts of the people who run this site, keep the name they signed in with, so that an organisation answering a question about its own vacancy is seen as that organisation.

Your profile, CV and personal history form

If you choose to fill them in, we store:

  • Profile: a headline, the kinds of work you are interested in, and optionally your real name.
  • CV: contact details, a summary, skills, education, employment history, languages and referees.
  • Personal history form (the P11 used by the UN and many international organisations): the details that form asks for, which can include your date and place of birth, nationality, gender, marital status, dependants, salary history and answers to its declaration questions.

These exist so you can keep your details in one place and produce a CV or P11 when you apply. They are private: only you can see them. They are not shown to employers or to other members, and they are not searchable. We never ask for a passport number or a photograph. You can delete your CV, or just the personal history part of it, from your dashboard at any time.

Saved vacancies, applications and job alerts

If you use them, we store the vacancies you save, the application progress you record for yourself (for example “applied” or “interview”), and your job alerts: what you searched for or which organisation you follow, how often you want to hear, and which vacancies we have already sent you so we do not send them twice. Your application progress is never shown to employers. You can change or delete any of this from your dashboard.

Discussions and comments

You need an account to take part in a vacancy discussion or to comment on an article. What you write is public and appears under your public name. Alongside each comment, WordPress stores your email address, your IP address and your browser details. We use these to deal with spam and abuse, and they are never shown publicly.

Comments are checked for spam by Akismet, a service run by Automattic. To do that, Akismet receives the comment and details such as your IP address and browser. See Automattic’s privacy policy.

If you take part in a discussion, you may get an email when somebody replies to you or mentions you in it.

Sharing a vacancy by email

When you email a vacancy to somebody through the site, we keep a record of their email address, your email address if you gave it or are signed in, how many times each address has been written to, and when. The personal note you can add is sent to your friend but not stored by us. If you are signed in, your email address is set as the reply address, so your friend’s reply goes to you.

We keep these records to stop the feature being used to send spam: there is a daily limit on sends, and we will not email the same person more than once every few days. Somebody who receives a shared vacancy is not added to any mailing list. The email tells them so, and it has a link they can use to stop anyone sharing vacancies with them through this site again. If they use it, we keep a note not to contact that address so that we can keep that promise.

To apply the daily limit to visitors who are not signed in, we use a scrambled (hashed) form of their IP address, which we do not keep for more than a day.

The contact form

When you send us a message or report a problem, we store the topic you chose, your message, the page you sent it from, and your email address if you give one, so that we can reply.

Notifications on your device

If you allow notifications, your browser gives us a subscription address for your device, which we store with a general description of the device type, such as “Android” or “Windows”. The notifications are delivered by your browser’s own push service (run by Google, Mozilla or Apple, depending on your browser), and their content is encrypted so that service cannot read it. You can switch notifications off from your dashboard or in your browser settings.

Employers

If you post vacancies with us, we store your organisation’s name and website. The vacancies you submit, including the application address or link, are published once we have reviewed them.

Emails we send

We only send email that you have asked for, or that follows from something you did:

  • a welcome email the first time you sign in
  • the job alerts you set up
  • replies and mentions in discussions you have taken part in
  • a vacancy somebody chose to share with you

Every job alert has a link to change or stop it. Our email is sent through Brevo, an email delivery service, which keeps delivery records as part of sending it. See Brevo’s privacy policy.

Cookies and storage on your device

We do not use cookies for advertising or analytics. The ones this site uses are needed for it to work:

  • Sign-in cookies: set by WordPress when you sign in, to keep you signed in. They are removed when you sign out. The sign-in page also sets a short-lived test cookie to check that your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data.
  • Security: Cloudflare may set cookies that help it tell real visitors from automated traffic. On some forms, if you are not signed in, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person rather than a bot. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • Offline use: the site can work as an app and keep recently viewed pages on your device so you can read them without a connection. This is stored in your browser, and pages from your account are cleared when you sign out. We also store a few settings in your browser, such as whether you have dismissed the “install the app” suggestion.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell personal data or give it to employers. We use these services to run the site, and each receives only what it needs:

  • Cloudflare: delivers and protects the site, runs the Turnstile check, and forwards email sent to our address
  • Our web hosting provider: stores the site and its database
  • Google and LinkedIn: only when you choose to sign in with them
  • Brevo: delivers our emails
  • Akismet (Automattic): checks comments for spam
  • Your browser’s push service: only if you turn on notifications

Some of these services process data outside Nepal. The LinkedIn, Facebook and WhatsApp share buttons on each vacancy are plain links. They send nothing to those sites unless you click one.

We will disclose personal data if the law requires us to.

How long we keep your data

  • Your account and everything in it: until you ask us to delete it. You can delete your CV, alerts, saved vacancies and application notes yourself at any time.
  • Comments: kept with the discussion they belong to, under your public name, unless you ask us to remove them. If we delete your account, your comments stay under that public name unless you ask for them to go too.
  • Messages sent through the contact form: kept so that we can follow them up, until you ask us to delete them.
  • Shared vacancy records: kept to enforce the sending limits, until you ask us to delete them. If somebody has asked not to be contacted, we keep that note permanently, because deleting it would let their address be emailed again. If they also ask us to erase their data, we delete the address itself and keep only a scrambled key that lets us recognise it, which is enough to keep the promise.
  • Device notification subscriptions: removed when you switch notifications off, or automatically once the device stops accepting them.
  • Anti-abuse counters (such as the hashed IP address used for the sharing limit): a day or less.

Your rights

You can ask us:

  • for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • to correct it
  • to delete your account and your data
  • to stop sending you any email

Email [email protected] or use the contact form, and we will reply within five business days. There is no button for these on the site: we handle every request ourselves. For a copy of your data, you will get an email asking you to confirm the request, and then a link to download a file with everything we hold about you: your account, profile, CV and personal history form, saved vacancies, application notes, job alerts, notification devices, shared vacancy record, messages to us and the comments you have left. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you, usually by replying to the email address on your account. We may keep a small amount of information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to honour a request not to be contacted.

How we protect your data

The whole site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Access to personal data on the site is limited to the people who run it, and your private details, such as your CV, are not shown to anybody else. No system is completely secure, but we keep what we hold to the minimum the site needs.

If a security incident put your personal data at risk, we would tell you by email as soon as we reasonably could, and explain what happened and what you can do.

Automated decisions

We do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not build profiles of you for advertising. Job alerts match new vacancies against the search you saved, and nothing more.

Children

This site is for job seekers and employers. It is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell account holders by email.
